Preserve Handwritten Family Recipes: Scans, Transcription & Keepsakes

Preserve family recipes with Eftsona’s original scans and typed transcriptions. Compare one-recipe and 25-recipe options, prices and handling steps.

A handwritten family recipe holds two things at once: cooking instructions and the handwriting of the person who kept them. Eftsona Preservation’s recipe service includes an original scan and typed transcription, so you can keep the source image alongside a readable version.

Start with one recipe or a collection

Family Recipes · 1 recipe — $1.49. The listed return format is a PDF with typed transcription plus a JPEG original. Choose one recipe →

Family Recipes · 25 recipes — $24.99. The same listed format supports a larger recipe collection. View the 25-recipe option →

There is no collection minimum. If you are unsure about a faded card, start with one permitted item and review the service details before committing the whole box.

Example: a recipe card with family notes

Illustrative example, not a customer order: a card lists ingredients on the front and has a handwritten change on the back. Keep both sides identified and tell Preservation that the reverse contains part of the recipe. The original scan preserves the visible marks; the transcription makes readable instructions easier to use. Ask about the item count and scope before checkout if one recipe spans several cards or pages.

A second family member might remember that the recipe was used every December. That recollection can be recorded separately, with the contributor named and uncertainty visible. It should not be silently inserted into the original instructions as though it appeared on the card.

Choose a format you can use

The standard recipe option combines PDF transcription with a JPEG original. The formats page also describes DOCX as an editable typed transcription, included with recipe transcription on request, and TXT for plain transcription. Discuss the format you need rather than assuming every listed format arrives automatically.

How the service works

  1. Choose the item or package and read its scope.
  2. Upload digitally after checkout, or agree physical handling and shipping before sending originals.
  3. Preservation retains the untouched scan and prepares the recommended files. Designed upgrades receive a private proof.
  4. Download the final files privately and keep a separate backup.

Can I mail a fragile recipe book?

Contact Preservation first. Physical scanning is available for items up to legal size, 8.5 × 14 inches; fragile, bound, oversized, or framed originals need prior discussion.

Does transcription prove who wrote the recipe?

No. A readable transcription and scan preserve the material you supplied; they do not establish authorship or a family relationship by themselves.

Can I see what the service is like before ordering?

Review Preservation previews and the recipe service details.
