Application

Agreement and Scope

These Terms of Service form an agreement between you and Eftsona concerning your use of eftsona.com and any Eftsona service that links to these Terms.

The services covered may include:

• Public articles, investigations, newsletters, and publications.
• Free Investigator membership and records of former paid memberships.
• The Investigation Library and protected digital files.
• Curiosity Profiles, Reading Desks, archives, completion records, and other member tools.
• Eftsona Academy courses, examinations, reviews, and certificates.
• Contact forms, the Question Box, corrections, and other submissions.
• Digital or physical products, downloads, licenses, and Bookshop services.
• Any related feature, application, or service that adopts these Terms.

Additional terms shown at enrollment, checkout, download, or within a particular program are incorporated into these Terms. If a specific written term conflicts with these general Terms, the more specific term controls for that service.

The Eftsona Academy Policies and Academy Code of Conduct are incorporated into these Terms for every Academy applicant, learner, enrollee, certificate holder, and Specialty Study participant. If an Academy-specific provision conflicts with these general Terms, the Academy-specific provision controls for Academy education unless applicable law requires otherwise.

The Eftsona Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Eligibility and Security

Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or independently use an interactive Eftsona service. If you are under the legal age of majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms on your behalf, and you may use only those services permitted by applicable law.

You agree to provide accurate, current information and to keep account details reasonably up to date.

Your account is personal to you. You may not:

• Share a sign-in link, session, password, access token, or other account credential.
• Allow another person to use your membership, course enrollment, examination access, or purchased license.
• Create an account for another person without authorization.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, age, affiliation, or eligibility.
• Circumvent an access restriction, membership level, enrollment requirement, or security control.

You are responsible for activity conducted through your account unless caused by a failure within Eftsona's reasonable control. Notify Eftsona promptly through the Contact page if you believe your account or sign-in access has been compromised.

Institutional Structure

Eftsona Services and Important Boundaries

Eftsona is an independent research, publishing, membership, and educational institution centered on evidence-based inquiry.

The following boundaries apply unless Eftsona expressly states otherwise in writing:

• An Eftsona membership is separate from a Bookshop purchase.
• A Bookshop purchase does not create a membership.
• Academy enrollment and course access are separate from Academy workbooks, retail materials, and merchandise.
• Purchasing an Academy workbook or retail item does not enroll the purchaser in a course, satisfy a course requirement, or entitle the purchaser to a certificate.
• A certificate is an earned institutional record and is not a store product.
• Investigation Library PDFs, narrations, and member publications remain Library content unless Eftsona deliberately offers a separate derivative product or license.
• Access to one Eftsona service does not include another service unless the applicable offer expressly says it does.

Eftsona may create complimentary, promotional, founding-member, bundled, scholarship, or limited-time access. Such access is governed by the written terms of the particular offer and does not permanently alter the boundaries above.

Free Membership

Memberships, Billing, and Cancellation

Eftsona offers one free Investigator membership. Some investigations are public; the wider Investigation Library requires a signed-in member account.

Membership Benefits

Free Investigator membership includes the Investigation Library, Investigation Atlas, published Deep Dive investigations, Research Journals, Library Collections, and member tools. Investigations previously designated Researcher or Archivist are included with free Investigator membership.

Bookshop products, separately licensed work, and Academy enrollment remain separate from free membership. Content and features may change prospectively; access remains subject to these Terms.

No Charge for Free Membership

Free Investigator membership has no subscription fee, recurring charge, or automatic conversion to a paid membership. Founding Member recognition does not cause free library access to expire on December 31, 2026.

Former Paid Memberships

Researcher and Archivist are retired membership tiers. A paid subscription is no longer required to read their former library content. Existing accounts may retain historical tier or billing records.

If a legacy subscription still appears in your account, you may manage or cancel it through the available account portal, or contact Eftsona for assistance. Archiving a tier does not itself cancel a subscription. Any cancellation takes effect as stated in its confirmation. Ending a former paid subscription does not remove eligibility for free Investigator access.

Previously Charged Membership Fees

Unless a specific offer states otherwise, membership fees already charged are nonrefundable except where required by law. Canceling ordinarily prevents future renewal charges but does not create a refund for the current billing period. Eftsona may issue a discretionary refund or credit, but doing so once does not create an obligation to do so again.

Transactions and Delivery

Purchases, Digital Products, and Delivery

Eftsona may offer digital downloads, printable editions, fillable editions, reusable page packs, books, workbooks, physical goods, licenses, or other products.

The product page or checkout will identify the applicable format, price, taxes, delivery method, included files, license, and any product-specific refund or replacement terms.

Digital Products

Unless a different license is expressly supplied, purchasing a digital product grants the purchaser a limited, personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use the product for the purchaser's own lawful purposes.

A digital purchase does not transfer copyright or permit the purchaser to:

• Resell, redistribute, sublicense, post, upload, or publicly share the file.
• Provide copies to an organization, class, client group, membership, or shared repository.
• Remove copyright, license, attribution, access-control, or identifying notices.
• Convert the product into another product, template, database, course, application, or commercial service.
• Use the product outside the scope of a separately purchased classroom, organizational, commercial, or other expanded license.

Physical Products

Physical-product delivery, shipping, replacement, return, and refund terms will be presented through the applicable Bookshop listing or checkout. Risk of loss and title will transfer as provided by applicable law and the stated shipping terms.

Digital Refunds

Because digital files can be accessed or downloaded immediately, digital purchases are ordinarily nonrefundable once access or delivery has occurred, except where the product-specific terms or applicable law require otherwise. Contact Eftsona if a file is defective, incomplete, inaccessible, or materially different from its description.

Education and Recognition

Eftsona Academy

Eftsona Academy provides educational courses, assessments, reviews, and institutional records. Course descriptions identify the subject, access conditions, completion requirements, and any applicable fees.

The Academy offers no job placement, career services, employment referrals, earnings promises, occupational examination preparation, academic degree, college credit, transfer credit, professional development credit, or credit recognized by a licensing or regulatory body.

Enrollment and Course Access

Academy applicants and learners must be at least 18 years old. Enrollment is personal and nontransferable. Course materials may be used only by the enrolled learner for the purposes allowed by the course.

Eftsona may establish reasonable enrollment periods, prerequisites, completion requirements, assessment standards, conduct rules, and technical requirements. No recurring educational maintenance or renewal requirement applies to an earned Academy rank or certificate, although a record may be corrected, suspended, withdrawn, or revoked for fraud, material misrepresentation, or serious misconduct under Academy policy.

Academy Cancellation and Refunds

A learner may cancel for a full refund before protected course access is granted. After access is granted, a learner may request cancellation within seven calendar days only if no lesson, assessment, capstone, Specialty Study module, or downloadable course material has been opened or completed. Once substantive course access or participation begins, tuition is ordinarily nonrefundable except when required by applicable law or when Eftsona cancels the purchased program and cannot provide a reasonable equivalent.

If Eftsona permanently discontinues an enrolled program before completion, Eftsona may provide a reasonable opportunity to finish, a comparable replacement accepted by the learner, or a fair refund based on the undelivered portion. Nothing in this provision limits a nonwaivable cancellation, cooling-off, refund, chargeback, or consumer-protection right that applies in the learner’s jurisdiction.

Academic and Examination Integrity

Learners must complete required work honestly. Unless a course expressly permits it, you may not:

• Have another person complete coursework or an examination for you.
• Complete coursework or an examination for another person.
• Share, reproduce, publish, sell, or solicit protected examination questions or answers.
• Use unauthorized notes, answer banks, automated tools, artificial-intelligence systems, or outside assistance during an assessment.
• Manipulate course records, completion status, scores, student numbers, certificates, or review results.
• Misrepresent identity, participation, work, sources, or achievement.

Eftsona may review suspected irregularities, require identity or completion verification, invalidate an assessment, require reassessment, withhold or revoke a certificate, suspend Academy access, or take another proportionate action when program integrity reasonably requires it.

Certificates and Internal Educational Standards

Certificates must be earned through the requirements of the applicable Eftsona program. They may not be purchased independently.

Academy programs and Specialty Studies are certified under Eftsona Academy’s internal educational standards. “Academy Investigator,” “Advanced Academy Investigator,” “Senior Academy Investigator,” and “Master Academy Investigator” are internal educational ranks.

An internal educational rank documenting avocational course completion—not a professional title, occupational credential, or license.

Eftsona Academy is not institutionally accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. Academy programs do not award academic degrees, college credit, transfer credit, professional credit, or credit recognized by an occupational licensing authority.

No Eftsona course, certificate, rank, or Specialty Study establishes professional competence for hire; satisfies a governmental, occupational, or licensing requirement; grants police powers, subpoena authority, privileged access, or professional licensure; or authorizes the holder to act for or represent Eftsona.

Educational Outcomes

Eftsona does not guarantee employment, professional advancement, publication, investigative success, or acceptance of a certificate by an employer, agency, school, court, licensing body, or other organization.

Independent Activity

Independent Learner Activity

Participation in Eftsona Academy does not create employment, agency, partnership, joint venture, fiduciary duty, or authority to bind Eftsona.

Eftsona does not assign members or learners to conduct investigations and does not direct independent field activity. A participant who chooses to research or investigate a matter does so independently, at that person's own initiative and responsibility, and must comply with all laws governing the place and activity involved.

Participants may truthfully describe an earned Eftsona certificate or internal educational rank in the manner Eftsona authorizes. They may not:

• Claim to be an Eftsona employee, agent, officer, official representative, or assigned investigator.
• Claim governmental, police, legal, regulatory, or professional authority that they do not possess.
• Display or describe an Eftsona record in a misleading way.
• Use Eftsona's name, marks, or materials to obtain access, cooperation, records, property, or deference to which they are not independently entitled.
• Suggest that an independent investigation is directed, supervised, endorsed, or insured by Eftsona unless Eftsona has expressly said so in writing.

If a court, law-enforcement agency, regulator, or other authorized legal body lawfully inquires into activity associated with an Eftsona participant, Eftsona will cooperate as required or permitted by governing law.

Ownership and Permission

Intellectual Property and Limited License

Unless otherwise identified, Eftsona owns or controls the rights in its original investigations, articles, research compilations, publications, narration scripts and recordings, course materials, examinations, certificates, forms, workbooks, graphics, designs, logos, branding, software, page content, databases, and other original material.

Third-party quotations, images, records, public documents, or cited sources remain subject to the rights and terms that apply to them.

Limited Permission to Use Eftsona Services

Subject to these Terms, Eftsona grants you a limited, personal, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to access and use the services and content made available to you for lawful personal, educational, and research purposes.

You may share an ordinary public link to an Eftsona page and may quote limited portions where permitted by law with appropriate attribution. Nothing in these Terms restricts fair use or another nonwaivable right recognized by law.

Uses Requiring Written Permission

Except where permitted by law or an express Eftsona license, you may not:

• Copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, transmit, publicly display, perform, sell, sublicense, or create derivative works from Eftsona content.
• Share, forward, upload, or redistribute protected downloads, member files, course materials, examinations, narrations, journals, or Bookshop files.
• Remove or alter copyright, attribution, access-control, watermark, license, source, or identifying information.
• Create a competing archive, library, database, newsletter, course, workbook, application, or commercial product from Eftsona material.
• Scrape, crawl, harvest, mirror, index, or systematically extract Eftsona content except through ordinary browser use or standard search-engine indexing authorized by Eftsona.
• Use Eftsona content or protected data to train, fine-tune, validate, benchmark, ground, or supply an artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system without written permission.
• Circumvent membership controls, download protections, technical restrictions, or protected-file delivery systems.

Responsible Conduct

Responsible Use and Prohibited Conduct

You agree to use Eftsona lawfully and with respect for the institution, other users, sources, and private individuals.

You may not use an Eftsona service to:

• Violate applicable law, regulation, court order, intellectual-property right, privacy right, contractual duty, or other legal obligation.
• Gain or attempt unauthorized access to an account, file, system, network, course, examination, membership level, or administrative function.
• Introduce malware, harmful code, excessive requests, denial-of-service activity, or another disruptive mechanism.
• Probe, scan, test, reverse engineer, bypass, or exploit a security or access-control measure except through a program Eftsona has expressly authorized in writing.
• Harass, threaten, stalk, defame, intimidate, exploit, or unlawfully discriminate against another person.
• Publish or solicit personal addresses, private contact details, sensitive personal information, or allegations about private individuals through Eftsona systems.
• Interfere with an active law-enforcement, court, regulatory, legal, safety, or emergency matter.
• Submit confidential, stolen, unlawfully obtained, access-restricted, or malicious material.
• Impersonate Eftsona or misrepresent Eftsona's endorsement, role, authority, or relationship with you.
• Use automated accounts, bulk submissions, spam, deceptive traffic, or manipulative activity.
• Assist another person in conduct prohibited by these Terms.

Eftsona may investigate suspected misuse and preserve relevant records. Serious or repeated violations may result in removal of material, restriction of access, suspension, termination, certificate or educational-record review, and lawful referral or disclosure to appropriate authorities.

Editorial and Educational Purpose

Investigations, Publications, and Educational Purpose

Eftsona content is provided for educational, informational, editorial, and research purposes.

Eftsona seeks to use reliable sources, distinguish evidence from inference, identify uncertainty, and correct material errors when warranted. Research and historical records may be incomplete, disputed, later revised, or open to more than one reasonable interpretation.

Eftsona content does not constitute legal, medical, mental-health, financial, tax, investment, safety, forensic, law-enforcement, or other professional advice. It is not a substitute for a qualified professional who can evaluate a person's specific circumstances.

Publication of an investigation does not establish guilt, liability, wrongdoing, or a legal finding. Readers are responsible for evaluating sources, context, uncertainty, and applicable law before acting on information.

Eftsona may revise, correct, expand, archive, reclassify, or withdraw content as evidence, editorial judgment, law, safety, or institutional integrity requires.

Questions and Corrections

Questions, Corrections, and Other Submissions

You retain ownership of original material you submit to Eftsona. By submitting a question, correction, source, comment, suggestion, or other material, you grant Eftsona a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to receive, store, review, verify, reproduce, edit, summarize, combine, adapt, cite, publish, archive, and otherwise use the submitted material for Eftsona's editorial, research, educational, recordkeeping, and operational purposes.

This license continues for material incorporated into Eftsona's editorial or institutional record. Eftsona does not acquire ownership of your original work merely because you submitted it.

You represent that:

• You have the right to submit the material and grant the permission described above.
• The submission is accurate to the best of your knowledge and is not intentionally deceptive.
• The submission does not unlawfully violate another person's copyright, privacy, confidentiality, contractual, or other rights.
• You have not included prohibited personal information, unlawful material, or content that could interfere with an active law-enforcement or legal matter.

Question Box submissions may be edited for clarity, combined with similar questions, investigated, published, or declined. Submission does not guarantee investigation, publication, attribution, compensation, or an individual response.

Questions are generally published without personal attribution unless you request attribution and Eftsona agrees to it. If attribution is agreed, the approved name or attribution may become public.

Eftsona may remove or decline any submission and may preserve a submission when reasonably necessary for editorial records, security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

Outside Services

Third-Party Services and External Links

Eftsona may use or link to services operated by others, including payment processors, form providers, email providers, hosting providers, embedded media, cited sources, and external websites.

Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Eftsona does not control and is not responsible for an independent third party's content, availability, security, accuracy, or practices.

A link, citation, reference, or integration does not by itself constitute endorsement, sponsorship, partnership, or verification of everything offered by that third party.

Personal Information

Privacy

Eftsona's collection, use, retention, protection, and disclosure of personal information are described in the Eftsona Privacy Policy.

Do not submit personal addresses, sensitive personal information, allegations about private individuals, passwords, authentication codes, complete payment-card information, unlawfully obtained material, or information that could interfere with an active law-enforcement, legal, or regulatory matter.

Service Administration

Availability, Changes, Suspension, and Termination

Eftsona works to keep its services available and accurate but does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or permanent availability.

Eftsona may maintain, update, correct, replace, limit, suspend, or discontinue content or features. When practical, Eftsona will consider existing paid access and provide reasonable notice of a material service change.

Eftsona may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably believed necessary to:

• Enforce these Terms or another applicable policy.
• Protect an account, person, source, service, investigation, or system.
• Address nonpayment, fraud, misuse, academic-integrity concerns, or unauthorized activity.
• Comply with law or a lawful instruction from an authorized body.
• Prevent material harm or preserve institutional integrity.

Where appropriate, Eftsona may provide notice and an opportunity to respond. Immediate action may be taken when delay could increase harm, compromise security, interfere with a lawful matter, or expose Eftsona or another person to material risk.

Termination ends the permission to use the affected service. Provisions concerning intellectual property, submissions, institutional records, payment obligations, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, disputes, and other terms that logically should continue will survive termination.

Warranty Terms

Disclaimers of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eftsona services and content are provided “as is” and “as available.”

Eftsona disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, noninfringement, accuracy, availability, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade, to the extent those warranties may lawfully be disclaimed.

Eftsona does not warrant that:

• A service will always be available, secure, uninterrupted, or error free.
• Every source, record, statement, conclusion, transcription, translation, or interpretation is complete or free from error.
• A course, membership, certificate, investigation, publication, or product will meet every user's expectations or produce a particular result.
• External links, providers, or sources will remain available or accurate.

Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer protection that applicable law does not permit Eftsona to exclude.

Limits of Responsibility

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eftsona and its owner, contributors, contractors, representatives, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, opportunity, goodwill, data, access, or anticipated benefit arising from or related to the services.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eftsona's total liability for a claim involving a paid service will not exceed the amount you paid Eftsona for the specific service giving rise to the claim during the 12 months before the event giving rise to liability. For a claim involving only a free service, Eftsona's total liability will not exceed US $100.

These limitations apply regardless of legal theory and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They do not limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for intentional misconduct or another category that applicable law expressly protects.

Third-Party Claims

Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Eftsona and its owner, contributors, contractors, representatives, and service providers from third-party claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, and reasonable costs arising from:

• Your unlawful or unauthorized use of an Eftsona service.
• Your material violation of these Terms.
• Material you submit or make public through Eftsona.
• Your infringement or violation of another person's rights.
• Your independent investigative or field activity.
• Your misrepresentation of an Eftsona relationship, certificate, internal educational rank, or authority.

This obligation applies only to the extent the claim results from your conduct and only to the extent permitted by applicable law. Eftsona may control the defense of a covered claim, and you agree to provide reasonable cooperation. Eftsona will not settle a claim in a way that imposes a personal admission or nonmonetary obligation on you without your consent.

Legal Process

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the applicable laws of the United States and the state in which Eftsona is principally operated, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the mandatory law of your place of residence provides otherwise.

Before filing a non-emergency legal claim, you and Eftsona agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve the matter informally. Send a written description of the dispute and requested resolution through the Contact page with Legal Notice at the beginning of the subject line. Allow 30 days for a response before filing, unless waiting would cause a claim to expire or prevent necessary emergency relief.

Any court proceeding must be brought in a court with lawful jurisdiction over the parties and dispute. Nothing in these Terms prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive relief, using an available small-claims process, reporting a matter to a government agency, or exercising a right that cannot lawfully be waived.

These Terms do not require arbitration and do not contain a class-action waiver.

Revisions

Changes to These Terms

Eftsona may revise these Terms as its services, technology, pricing, institutional structure, or legal obligations change.

The current version will be posted on this page with a revised Last updated date. When required by law or appropriate because a change is material, Eftsona may provide additional notice through the website, by email, through an account notice, or by another reasonable method.

Changes apply prospectively from their stated effective date. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with a revision, stop using the affected service and cancel any recurring service before the next charge.

General Provisions

General Terms

Entire Agreement

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any applicable program, enrollment, purchase, or license terms form the complete agreement concerning the covered service and replace prior discussions or statements about that subject.

Severability

If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum lawful extent or modified as narrowly as necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

No Waiver

Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later. A waiver is effective only if made in writing by Eftsona and applies only to the specific circumstance identified.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your account, license, enrollment, certificate, or rights under these Terms without Eftsona's written permission. Eftsona may assign these Terms as part of a lawful reorganization, transfer, or change in ownership.

No Third-Party Beneficiaries

These Terms do not create enforcement rights for a person who is not a party to them, except for Eftsona parties expressly protected by the disclaimer, liability, or indemnification provisions.

Events Beyond Reasonable Control

Eftsona is not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including utility, network, hosting, payment, supplier, disaster, governmental, legal, labor, security, or other external disruptions.

Electronic Communications

You consent to receive agreements, notices, receipts, and other service communications electronically where permitted by law. Electronic communications satisfy a requirement that a communication be in writing unless applicable law requires another form.
